Islamabad Emerges as Leading Option for Second Round of US–Iran Negotiations

The United States has indicated that the next round of talks with Iran may once again be held in Pakistan, following a successful previous session that reportedly impressed Donald Trump.

Speaking to the media, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that future discussions are “very likely” to take place at the same venue. She emphasized that the US government greatly appreciates Pakistan’s role in facilitating these negotiations.

Leavitt praised Pakistan as an “exceptional mediator,” adding that although several other countries have shown interest in assisting, the United States prefers to continue working exclusively through Pakistan to ensure smooth and efficient communication.

Meanwhile, preparations are already underway in Islamabad for a possible second round of talks. The discussions aim to ease tensions and address a conflict that has affected energy markets and daily life in various parts of the Middle East.

Security arrangements began earlier this week to provide full protection for the visiting delegations.

President Trump also expressed confidence in the ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating that talks with Iran could resume soon and suggesting Pakistan as the probable host. Although he hinted that negotiations might restart within days, they are more likely to be scheduled for later in the week or early next week.

The same high-end hotel that hosted the first round of discussions is expected to be used again for accommodating international delegates.

Previously, Pakistan facilitated a rare high-level meeting between officials from Washington and Tehran, including US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. These talks marked one of the most significant direct engagements between the two nations since their relations deteriorated in 1979.
